Up-and-coming Glasgow trio Fire on the Horizon concocts a smooth style of post-metal, citing influences such as ISIS, Cult of Luna, GY!BE, and Mogwai. "3" is less transparent than we might expect, starting with a standard post-rock build, but then climaxing with effective metal riffing while the Mono inspired tremolo still flutters away in the background. The biting aggression is short lived, eventually subsiding into feedback and gentle ambient washes, but we'd be quite naive to think Fire on the Horizon wasn't going to return the dynamic twofold to close out the set.
Having recently recorded an album with Lolita Stasi and inked a deal with Forgotten Empire Records, Fire on the Horizon is looking to up their presence in the Glasgow region by gigging out the rest of the year in preparation of their debut release. It's only a matter of time before the rest of the country takes notice.
