The Black Heart Rebellion is the latest sound out of Belgium, combining post-rock and hardcore dynamics into an ineffable whole. Drawing from influences such as Mono and Red Sparowes, "Silhouette" aims high and delivers. A fairly standard guitar led opening ushers in a wave of guttural vocals, slowly raising the intensity as the various layers clash over a boiling pot of chaotic soundscapes. Though the vocals are very raw and aggressive, they never dominate the mix, instead keeping the guitars the main focus of our attention. After six minutes, the band retreats and we're left with a somber piano outro, a fitting technique to reset the palette following Silhouette's main attraction.
Having released a split album in 2006 with Autumn Delay, The Black Heart Rebellion is scheduled to tour Europe in the fall, along with their upcoming full length release. Expect a mighty ,energetic performance, if this track is any indication of TBHR's future.
