Paucity has long been an act to watch. Formed in 2003, the band's debut album went largely unnoticed, much to the detriment of open minds and ears everywhere. "A Random Killing" levitates; it's one of those cool-as-fuck tracks which is just too self-absorbed to be brought down to the level of others. Strong bass and playful synths collide with some of the tastiest drum bits in years. This is where jazz and indie rock come to a standstill, each grabbing for the limelight and not concerned about making it sound convincing, but somehow it all works in the end. The passive confidence emanating from this track could not be any more appropriate.
Currently Paucity is working on its sophomore album, which is projected to be released in 2008. Fans of Silencio, Timeout Drawer, and Holy Fuck take note; this will not be one to miss.
