In true post-rock fashion, it's taken years for Industries of the Blind to develop properly as a band. Formed in 2003 in North Carolina, the band quickly built up a local fan base and solidified a lineup which consists of nine musicians. Recalling the swelling orchestral sounds of bands such as The Ascent of Everest and The Pirate Ship Quintet, it is clear the potential in Industries of the Blind is great. "Waiting and Waltzing" focuses on a the interplay between string instruments and guitars for the better part of eight minutes, all the while allowing the percussion section to control the speed and intensity of the track. When the drums go in for the kill, the rest of the band has a delayed response, and just when the cathartic finale is within sight, everything stops. Keys and violin perform a short interlude, and then the crushing finale is cued. It is spectacular.
Industries of the Blind are certainly an act to watch out for. With a three track demo available for download an a proper release in the works, it's only a matter of time before everyone is talking about this spectacular group of musicians.
