Comprising members of Gregor Samsa, Kayo Dot, and ex-City of Caterpillar, the only real question surrounding Ghastly City Sleep's debut CD is "does it live up to the hype?" We give it a green light here at The Silent Ballet, as the four track, thirty minute affair effectively combines contemporary post-rock and the gauntlet of 90s experimental rock to form a piece as compelling as it is haunting. We'd expect as much from the history surrounding this band, but it's a bit of a surprise to see an emotional cohesiveness lying at the heart of the work. "Ice Creaks" and "Suchness" envelop the listener with a beautiful rawness and inspiring sound which can only draw comparisons to acts such as Sigur Ros and Radiohead. Although the store date for this wonderful work isn't until October, Robotic Empire is selling copies now -- do not miss out.
