Tulsa Drone's sophomore album is a grand experience. Songs From a Mean Season blows the listener away with a double serving of cinematic magic and dirty, gritty soundscapes. "Monogahela" and "Risk Guitar" waste no time in establishing the band's signature sound with heavy delay and reverb action and sloooooow, ominous progressions. But there are also tracks which spark to life with vibrant energy; "Brace" attacks with Herculean strength and Einsteinian sophistication, demonstrating craftsmanship unbeknown to any of their peers. At times, it's just too much to take in.
