Perhaps the most striking feature of Station, Russian Circles' sophomore album, is that the trio has so miraculously escaped the post-metal pigeonhole and created an album that actually does challenge the genre's standard bearers. This is no small feat, and continuously over the course of the album, RC shows they're always one step ahead of the listener. The emphasis isn't placed upon the speed and weight of the tracks, but instead the general development and fluidity of the music. Tracks like "Campaign" and "Verses" would prove to be sorely out of place in older material, but here they not only add significantly to the overarching theme, they may steal the show as well.
